Fundamental Principle of Multiplication

If there are two jobs such that one them can be completed in m ways and second  job can be completed in n ways, then the two jobs in succession can be completed in m X n ways. and the two jobs are independent of each other that is the occurrence of first job does not effect the occurrence of second job.

For example et us take the case of throwing a dice ad tossing a coin. As the two job are independent of each other because whatever is the outcome of first job that is throwing a dice will not effect the outcome of second job that is tossing a coin.

First job- Throwing a dice can be completed in 6 ways

Second job - Tossing a coin can be completed in 2 ways

Then the two jobs in succession can be completed in 6 X 2 = 12 ways
